Previous: Shopping For A Husband

maxfield-parrish-muse“Hear this”, Isha giggled beside him, reading from her smartphone.

Ever since Josh had gifted it to her, she had kept busy exploring different apps on it whenever she had a spare moment.

One she had quickly got addicted to was WhatsApp, essentially because it allowed her to stay in touch with family and friends while sharing all sorts of things online with them simultaneously.

“There was a young couple”, she narrated to Rosh the joke she had just read, “who felt they were made for each other. They were madly in love and going to marry.”

“Unfortunately, just before their marriage, both were killed in an accident. After death, they found themselves in heaven.”

“They were very happy there for a while, but sorely missed the lost opportunity to have had their wedding vows celebrated.”

“So the prospective groom took the Heaven’s caretaker aside, explained their anguish and pleaded, “Can we be married here please?"

“The caretaker was a bit surprised at the strange request and said, "I'm sorry, I've never heard of anyone in heaven wanting to get married.”

“I'm afraid you'll have to talk to the Lord God Almighty about that. I can get you an appointment next week."

“Come the appointed day, the couple was escorted into the presence of the Lord God Almighty, where they repeated their request.”

“The Lord looked at them solemnly and said, "I tell you what. Wait a year and if you still want to get married, come back and we will talk about it again."

“The year went by quickly. The couple, still very much wanting to get married, came back and renewed their request to God.”

“Again, the Lord God Almighty said, "I'm sorry to disappoint you, but you must wait another year, and then perhaps we’ll see."

“This happened year after year, for a dozen years. Each time they reasserted their yearning to be married. Each time God put them off for another year.”

“In the thirteenth year, they came before the Lord God Almighty to ask again. This time the Lord consented.”

"Yes, you may marry!” he said, “This Saturday at 2:00 p.m. We will have a beautiful ceremony. The reception will be on me!"

“The wedding went off without a hitch. The bride looked beautiful. The groom looked dashing. The feast was sumptuous. All attendees went away happy.”

“Tragically, the newlyweds quickly realized that they had made a horrible mistake. They simply weren’t made for each other.”

“Seeing that they couldn't stay married to one another anymore, they made another appointment to see God.”

“Groveling and frightened, they asked if they could get a divorce.”

“The Lord heard their request, looked at them, and said, "Look, it took us a dozen years to find a priest up here in heaven. Do you have any idea how long it'll take us to find a lawyer?"

Rosh laughed. She liked it when he laughed like that. Surging with sudden passion, she pulled him down on her.

A mosquito who had honed in on their warmth, banked sharply in mid-flight pulling away from these wildebeests.

‘Get out of harm’s way’, his little brain screamed. He had no intention of going to Heaven … not yet anyway.
